Chapter History
Efforts began in September 1973 when a letter was presented to Brother G.W. Ellis of Miami, Florida, from Jerry Randolph issuing a request to establish a chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity on the campus of Mississippi State University. Phi Beta Sigma was approved on the campus as an official student organization on April 30, 1976, but it was not until the fall of 1976 that the fraternity was truly recognized. The Theta Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was charted on the campus of Mississippi State University on September 20, 1976. Known as "The Great Eight". The first person initiated into the fraternity was Brother Carl Hathorn.
